How to Make Lobster Rolls

Follow this easy lobster roll recipe video to create homemade lobster rolls using our Maine lobster meat. This video provides step-by-step directions for making a Maine lobster roll and a Connecticut lobster roll (warm lobster roll)!

Lobster Roll Recipe

Step 1: Thaw lobster meat

Remove thawed lobster meat from the refrigerator, open the bag, and drain excess water. (We recommend a slow thaw in your fridge for 24 hours prior to preparing lobster rolls)

Step 2: Dry & Portion Lobster Meat

Next, dry the desired amount of your lobster meat on a paper towel to remove excess water. All lobster meat is sold in 2 lb. increments. 2 lbs. of lobster meat will make 8 (4 oz.) lobster rolls.

(If thawed properly in your fridge, you may refreeze your remaining lobster meat for later use. For more information regarding storage & freezing, please view our FAQ ).

Step 3: Chop Lobster Meat into bite-sized pieces

Place your lobster meat on a cutting board and chop your claw and knuckle lobster meat into bite sized pieces.

Both lobster tail meat and claw and knuckle lobster meat can be used to create a lobster roll, however, we recommend the claw and knuckle meat due to it's tenderness and sweet flavor!

Step 4: Maine Lobster Roll vs Connecticut Roll

Maine Lobster Roll

Maine lobster rolls are served chilled and with mayo. Some also prefer to add salt and pepper, celery, lemon, and chives. But we prefer to stick to the basics - lobster meat, mayo, and bread!

Place your lobster meat in a bowl and mix in your desired amount of mayo. A general rule is 1/4 cup of mayo per 1 pound of lobster meat.

Connecticut Lobster Roll (Warm)

Traditional Connecticut rolls are served warm and with butter! For more detailed cooking instructions, watch this how to cook lobster meat in the oven video.

First, to warm your lobster meat, preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Simultaneously, melt 1 stick of butter in a sauce pan. (You'll use this to line your baking sheet and to drizzle your lobster rolls once prepared). Line your oven baking sheet with lightly brushed butter. Place your lobster meat on the pan and space evenly.

Place in the oven on the middle rack and cook for 12-15 minutes or to an internal temperature of 140 degrees Fahrenheit. Check at the 10 minute mark to avoid overcooking. Remember, your lobster meat is pre-cooked, so this is more about warming up than cooking!

Step 5: Bread Preparation

The last step is to prepare the bread for the Maine lobster roll. (We do not sell lobster roll breading, just the meat! We recommend supporting your local bakery for top-cut rolls / buns).

First, melt 1 quarter stick of butter in a sauce pan. Next, spread the melted butter over both sides of the buns evenly. Lastly, pan fry (low to medium heat) your buns for about 1 minute on each side on a skillet or stove top to reach a nice golden-brown look!

Step 7: Assemble Your Lobster Rolls

Assemble your lobster roll using your freshly toasted bread with your desired amount of lobster meat. Serve & enjoy!

If you're serving Maine lobster rolls as an appetizer, we recommend utilizing all 2 lbs of the claw and knuckle meat; which will make 8 full size lobster rolls or 16 mini lobster rolls!

Our Maine lobster meat products are both are sold in 2 lb. increments. For comparison, that's equivalent to approximately 10 lobsters in terms of the amount of meat you receive.

Lobster rolls are great appetizers for any special event or family gathering!
